Priyadarshan & Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla Was Originally Planned as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Bollywood fans were pleasantly surprised when news broke that Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar are reuniting for a horror-comedy titled Bhooth Bangla. But what many don’t know is that this much-talked-about film was originally conceived as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2—long before the franchise took a completely different direction.

This revelation adds an interesting layer of nostalgia, especially for audiences who still associate Bhool Bhulaiyaa with Akshay Kumar’s iconic performance and Priyadarshan’s signature blend of comedy and suspense.

When Bhool Bhulaiyaa released in 2007, it became a cult classic—thanks to its perfect mix of psychological thrills, comedy, and memorable characters. Naturally, plans for a sequel were discussed early on, and Priyadarshan reportedly developed a story with Akshay Kumar in mind.

However, as years passed, creative differences and shifting studio plans caused delays. Eventually, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was rebooted with a new cast and creative team, leading to the 2022 version starring Kartik Aaryan.

Rather than revisiting the franchise, Priyadarshan chose to rework his original concept into a fresh standalone film, which eventually evolved into Bhooth Bangla.

Priyadarshan & Akshay Kumar: A Legendary Combo Returns

The director-actor duo has delivered several iconic films together, including Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. Their collaboration is known for sharp comic timing, situational humor, and memorable storytelling.

With Bhooth Bangla, expectations are high that the duo will recapture that classic magic—especially at a time when audiences are craving well-written, content-driven entertainers.

The journey of Bhooth Bangla—from being planned as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 to becoming its own identity—reflects how Bollywood stories evolve with time. While franchises come and go, strong creative partnerships and solid storytelling never lose their charm.

For fans of Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan, and classic Bollywood horror-comedy, Bhooth Bangla isn’t just another film—it’s a reminder of why this genre once worked so well.
